Sudley Infant School NEWSLETTER 1 (2005) 21 January 2005
Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends & Governors
Break in Unfortunately we had a break in on Monday evening at 7 pm. The burglars caused some damage - money and stamps were stolen. They were only in here about 18 minutes but seemed to have a good idea where valuables were kept - that is in our strong room. The police have been helpful but it has been quite an upheaval this week. We ask parents and friends who live near the school to contact the police if they hear our alarm ringing in the future. The children know about this and some of the Year 1 and 2 children in particular have been upset - I would like to thank staff for their extra help this week with the children and in the clearing up and sorting out process following this event.
School uniform change September 2005 Following the Governors’ meeting last week it has been unanimously agreed to change the school uniform from this September. The basic uniform colour will remain the same - grey - cardigan/jumper, tailored trousers/skirt/pinafores etc. Changes – new Reception children September 2005 The sweatshirt for new Reception children will be red with our unique school badge and motto - these will be sold by Laser who has the copyright to use this logo. The sky blue polo shirt will change back to white - either plain or from Laser with a red school badge and motto. The summer dresses for the new Reception children will be red stripes/check.
All present Reception and Year 1 All children in these year groups may continue to wear the navy/sky blue uniform in September. However, should you choose to put your child in the new colours you may do so - also, when you replace your child’s sweatshirt/polo shirt please purchase the new colour or revert to grey cardigan/jumper. Many of the children do not wear a sweatshirt at present and prefer the grey. The governors held a long discussion over all the issues raised by parents during the consultation process and felt that the change was for the best to take the school forward. (Further details about the consultation are to be found on class notice boards.)
Tsunami Disaster The student council have some ideas about fund raising for the victims - their ideas will be discussed by my management team shortly - so watch this space! Rewiring The rewiring is nearly complete - I’m sure you have noticed our lovely illuminated front sign and generally how well the school is lit up. We are going to have extra lights put in the school garden too. School grounds During the last 2 weeks we have had to deal with parents bringing dogs on the premises, older brothers play fighting and causing a disturbance at pick-up time and parents parking on the zig-zag lines. We need to work together as a community to improve these things. May I remind you that dogs are not allowed in the playspace, supervision of younger/older brothers and sisters is up to you and that it is illegal to park on or very near zig-zag lines.
Travelwise Thank you for taking time to fill out the travel questionnaire recently. A Travelwise group has been formed consisting of Jane Moore - coordinator, parents and school staff - they hope to get a separate newsletter out to you shortly to inform you of progress made.
