Sudley Infant School NEWSLETTER 2 (2005) 2nd February 2005
Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends & Governors
Tsunami Charity Appeal Following discussions with children and staff we have decided - 1) to sell children’s books, priced at £1 and £2, at 9 am on the last day of term - Friday, 11 February. At the same time, a selection of poems about Mothers, Valentines etc will be sold for a voluntary donation. These poems have been written by an ex-parent of the school who works here as a cleaner - Mrs Diane Wishart. 2) to have a children’s colouring competition (please find enclosed sheets) - entry is £1 and there will be vouchers for prizes - best three in each year group. I do hope you support the school’s effort for this very worthy cause.
Mini reports You will receive a report on Monday, 28 February which outlines your child’s progress so far this year - it is a snapshot of progress made and parents have commented in the past on how useful this is. You will receive a full report and an optional parent/teacher appointment at the end of the school year.
Travelwise The newly formed group of teachers, parents and Jane Moore (Travelwise) have had several meetings following the travel questionnaire you all completed in October - a newsletter outlining progress and the draft travel plan will be coming to you soon.
World Book Day Reading is such an important part of life and we celebrate this on World Book Day on 4 March. All children will receive a book token to the value of £1 which can be used at most booksellers. On the day children can dress up as their favourite character from a book. During the day we will be focusing on reading, associated reading skills and generally encouraging the children to develop a love of books. I’m sure you will agree, at times when children can be surrounded by television and computers, it is good to focus on the written word - we all welcome this event. Each child will complete a picture about their favourite book and we would like you all to fill a sheet in and those of you who are creative - draw a picture. It is intended that each class make a big book of parents and children’s work which we can keep for years to come in the library. I am looking for some parent volunteers who could come in at various times in the day to read your favourite passage from your favourite book - do let me know if you are able to spend some time with us by contacting your classteacher - can you spare 10 minutes on that day??? To sum up - 4 March all day, children can dress up as favourite book character, everyone will fill in about their favourite book and we need parent volunteers to read short passages . . . whew!!!
