                                                     NEWSLETTER 8 (2004)                    13 September 2004

Governors’ Annual Report   The governors would like to invite you to the Annual Parents’ Meeting which is to be held on Wednesday, 6 October 2004 at 7.15 pm in the school hall.  The latest brochure accompanies this newsletter for the majority of Year 1 and 2 parents (Reception parents have already been given theirs).  This year, the brochure contains all the information for the meeting.  Also enclosed is a report of income and expenditure for 2003/04 year and a copy of our Accessibility Plan.  There will an opportunity to ask questions at this meeting.  It would be helpful to the Governing Body if questions could be submitted in advance.  The last date for submission of questions will be Thursday, 30 September 2004.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends & Governors

I am glad to hear so many of you had a lovely summer holiday - the children were keen to tell me about all their activities!

Welcome to the new children in Years 1 and 2 who have joined us from other schools.  Also, an official greeting to the parents, guardians and children of Robins, Sparrows and Woodpeckers.

Rewiring  The school is being re-wired this term and there will be some disruption.  It will mean that some classes will be in the hall for up to a week at a time - I will let the parents know on the Friday before any change for Monday morning.

Healthy Eating   We have won Healthy Schools Awards for our work in promoting healthy lifestyle and eating.  To be consistent, we therefore ask parents not to include sweets or sugary drinks in packed lunches.  The same healthy ideas apply to birthdays and special occasions - we therefore ask that you do not send in cakes or sweets for distribution to other children.  Thanks for your help with this.

Attendance & Lateness   As a part of the school’s duty is to improve attendance and lateness, I would like to remind you of the times at the start of the school day.  8.50 am - Bell rings and children enter the school.  8.55 am - Registration.  9 am - The register is closed and anyone arriving after 9 am is marked as late - these late marks appear on your child’s attendance sheet in July.  All our attendance is recorded electronically and

Mrs Williams is our attendance officer.  Please let her know the reason for your child’s absence by telephoning the Parent Line -728 9639 and remember to send a note in confirming the reason on your child’s return to school.  If we have not heard from you, Mrs Williams will give you a ring to find out the nature of your child’s absence.

Sudley Infants maintains very high standards in all areas - help us to improve on attendance and lateness this year.

Head Lice   If your child is in Reception, you will find attached an information sheet on head lice.  Please read it and keep it in a safe place for future reference.

Lost Property   A large number of children do not have name tags in their clothes.  This causes problems when all 30 change for PE.  Please make sure your child’s clothes are labelled.  Lost property is located in the cloakroom opposite Nightingales.

Contact Numbers   Please ensure that we have up-to-date contact numbers.  Some parents have not informed us of new job/new home telephone numbers, consequently we have difficulty tracing you when the need arises.  Remember we have a special parent line
728 9639 for any messages or queries to do with your child.
