Sudley Infant School

                                                              NEWSLETTER 9 (2004)                                 21 September 2004

Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends & Governors

Reception Rucksacks   Reception children have been given a rucksack in the starter pack supplied by Liverpool City Council.  Please take care of this rucksack as we would like your child to use it on any day trips they take with school.

Reception Play Area   As you are aware, the Reception children have a wonderful outdoor area which is used for a wide range of learning opportunities.  To help us to develop this area we are creating themed boxes which the children can use for imaginative play.  We would like parents to donate items to help fill these boxes.  The items need not be new, but must be clean and safe.  We will have a different theme each week or fortnight (see diary below).  We are starting with ‘decorating’ and items could include things such as small paint brushes, rollers, trays, odd rolls of wallpaper, small aprons, buckets etc.  Please put any items in the large blue box by Reception/Year 1 cloakroom.  Thank you very much for your support.

Bike Stands   We have stands for 5 bikes.  If you wish your child to be allocated one please apply by letter, stating reasons why your child should be given one.  The place will be for one academic year.  The school will not be responsible for the safe keeping of these bikes and parents are obviously responsible for their child’s safety when riding to school.

Book Fair   A school book fair is a practical and fun way of encouraging reading and it greatly benefits our school by providing books for the school and class libraries.  A book catalogue is enclosed and this will give you an idea of the selection available.  We very much hope you can come and choose a book with your child at the time below.  If you are unable to attend you can either   a) select, order and pay through the Book Fair catalogue  OR  b) send money/cheque in to school (IN AN ENVELOPE CLEARLY MARKED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME) for your child to choose from the full range on display.  All cheques are payable to ‘SUDLEY INFANT ACTIVITY FUND’.

If the book your child wants is unavailable an order will be placed with the supplier - this will take a couple of weeks.  Books cannot be ordered without payment.  The book fair will be held in the school hall.

Money in school   Parents need to know that teachers will not handle or discuss money with you.  Any money - trip, dinner, party, milk etc – must be passed into school in an envelope and marked clearly with your child’s name and class.  When the deadline for monies is past you will receive a reminder slip in your child’s bag – if the money is not sent in you will receive a phone call.  I would be really grateful for your help in this.

September 2005   There are new procedures for applications for places in Reception classes from September 2005.  If you know of anyone who has not yet applied, please remind them.  All applicants whose forms we have received will shortly be receiving a booklet incorporating a preference form which must be returned to Liverpool Education Services by 30 November 2004, at the latest.
